Simplified approach

1) The material properties are defined in Table 7.1 Values given for g are upper bound values whereas values of and Ks m are mean values.

2) To account for the inherent variability of particulate material properties and to obtain values that represent extremes of the material properties, the values of Mm and Ks,m should be altered by the conversion factors 0,9 and 1,15. Thus in calculating maximum loads the following combinations are used:
