S Introductory remark

Section 7 on composite buildings in EN 1998-1 has a similar structure to Section 6 on steel Clauses 7.1.2(5), buildings. The information provided for steel buildings in Section 6 applies to composite 7.1.2(6), buildings as well. In the following, the emphasis is placed on those aspects which are specific 7.7.5(1), to the composite character of structural elements and structural types. 7.7.5(2)

The section on composite buildings in Eurocode 8 has been developed on the basis of one general design objective in order to achieve ductile dissipative zones with reliable resistance: that the integrity of concrete is maintained during the seismic event and yielding takes place in the steel sections and/or in the rebars.
