Determine Coulomb's Ka value for <j> = 20°, 6 = 10°, /3 = 0°, ip = 90°, cu = 10kN/m2, cw = 10kN/m2.

Solution

Hence the Ka value for horizontal pressure = 0.4467 x cos 10° = 0.44.

In part (b) of the next example (6.8) the values of Ka and Kat are obtained via Table 6.1. It is interesting to compare the answers to those found in this example (6.7).
