Discontinuities

Discontinuities are key to the engineering performance of rock masses. When describing discontinuities a number of features need to be identified including: dip and dip direction, spacing and block shape, persistence, roughness, aperture, infilling and seepage. Figure 4.12 provides details of the block size, discontinuity spacing and bedding thickness of rock.
