As the title implies, we will now focus our attention to those technologies aimed at reducing the volume of the final form of the sludge. Dewatering or thickening technologies can only bring us so far in concentrating the form of the waste. Ultimately, we must find ways of either disposing of this waste, or in using it. We'll discuss applications later on. Of immediate concern is how we can reduce the volume of so-called "dry" sludge, at solids contents ranging anywhere from 30 to 60 %, even further.
